THE MONTESSORI ADDITION STRIP BOARD
The Montessori Addition Strip Board is a valuable teaching tool that helps children learn the concept of addition in an interactive, engaging, and effective way. This approach to education is based on the Montessori principles of child-led learning and hands-on exploration. The Addition Strip Board provides a concrete, visual representation of the addition process, which can be especially helpful for children who find abstract concepts challenging. This kinaesthetic approach to learning engages children in an enjoyable and effective way.
In addition to its effectiveness in teaching the concept of addition, the Montessori Addition Strip Board also has the advantage of being easy to use. It is a simple, yet powerful teaching tool that helps children develop a deep understanding of the addition process.
It consists of a board divided into 18 squares horizontally and 11 squares vertically. The top row of squares is numbered from 1 to 18. Numbers 1 to 10 are colored red and numbers 11 to 18 are colored blue. There is a red line dividing the board vertically after the 10th square. There are two sets of wooden number strips in incremental lengths equivalent to the representative number of squares from 1 to 0. One set is solid blue with the representative number at the end of each strip and the other set is sectioned into red squares with the representative number at the end of each strip. The red strips are arranged on the left side of the board in ascending order, and the blue strips are arranged on the right side of the board in ascending order. The red strips are selected to represent the first addend in the equation and the blue strips are selected to represent the second addend in the equation.
